Ronald E. Childs Vice President, Media Relations

CHICAGO (November 9, 2009) Ronald E. Childs has been named vice president, Media Relations, for Flowers Communications Group (FCG), it was recently announced by the agency. Childs, 50, formerly served as media relations director for the top-rated multicultural marketing communications firm. For several years now, his department has managed all local, national, international and social media outreach for the agency’s entire client roster.

The results of Childs’ career can be seen both through work he has fostered on behalf of FCG and its clients, as well as his own published, written work. Under his leadership, FCG has penned premium multicultural, mainstream and social media coverage on behalf of its globally recognized clients, including American Honda, McDonalds, MillerCoors, Kmart, Sears, and the Chicago White Sox, to name only a few. From national morning TV shows and daily newspapers, to premiere African-American and Latino-focused media and the continuously emerging social media landscape, Childs maintains a pulse on best practices to deliver relevant, timely messages for FCG and its clients.

An award-winning journalist, editor and photographer, his written work has appeared in numerous publications worldwide, among them such respected periodicals as Black Enterprise, Black Issues In Higher Education, The Black Collegian, EM-EBONY MAN, Jet, UPSCALE, Dollars & Sense, Black Elegance, Minorities & Women In Business and Today’s Black Woman magazines, the IPRA Frontline and other titles.

Prior to joining FCG, the Grambling State University graduate held a number of high-level communications positions including: Assistant director of publicity and associate editor, respectively for Johnson Publishing Company and its former EM [EBONY MAN] magazine; communications specialist and speechwriter to Chicago’s late Mayor Harold Washington, and media strategist and senior account executive with Burrell Communications Group.

Childs is executive vice president of the Black Public Relations Society of Chicago, and a member of the National Black Public Relations Society, the National Association of Black Journalists’ national and Chicago chapters, and is founder and president of the Chicago alumni chapter of Grambling State University. He is the recipient of numbers of industry accolades, including the Distinguished Alumni Presidential Citation bestowed annually by the National Association for Equal Opportunity In Higher Education, and an induction into the national alumni Hall of Fame of Grambling State University. He also volunteers personal time to Literacy Chicago.
