Robert Marshall, M.D.

Democrat for U.S. Senate

My name is Dr. Robert Marshall and I am running for U.S. Senate in the upcoming Primary Election. As a practicing physician throughout the state of Illinois for the past three decades, I am aware of the dire need for health care reform in this country. I want to help make quality health insurance both accessible and affordable for you and every American by including a public option and restrict insurance companies from turning away patients with preexisting conditions. I also think that the Medicare eligibility age should be lowered to sixty and support the inclusion of young adults’ coverage on their parents’ insurance until age twenty-seven on the bill. With the record high unemployment rates, it is important that young men and women can still focus on health without worrying about costs regardless of whether they are unemployed or employed but without benefits.

Along with amending health care, I would like to represent you in Washington, D.C. by proposing many necessary changes to aid economic recovery. The Government needs to stop repeatedly bailing out the big companies causing the financial mess and start helping the smaller companies who have been hit the hardest in this recession. The rich and powerful in our nation should not have a different set of rules and laws than the average, hard-working American. My priority in the Senate for economic recovery is to stimulate middle-class spending through tax cuts for the middle-class and an overall reduction in federal spending.

As a Vietnam Veteran, I understand the significance of an extended war and the impact it has on our nation and the world alike. I support pulling the troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq, as these nations should be dealt with by police powers instead of our ongoing military presence. We have no more federal spending or American lives to spare and are only increasing the amount of harm done during this war.

In recent years, the great city of Chicago and the state of Illinois have once again fallen victim to rampant political corruption, abuses of office, and deterioration of the public trust in elected officials. In order to put an end to it, I want to combat political corruption and cronyism by supporting: term limits for Senators and Congressmen, and public support of political campaigns to minimize the influence of politically and financially powerful interest groups and their agendas. It is time we take back control of our own neighborhoods by putting representatives in office that understand what is in our best interest. I am not a candidate that has a history of political association in this state; I am another hard-working American wanting change like you.

I ask for your support in the February 2 Primary Election. Vote for me, Robert Marshall, M.D., to vote for a new kind of political leader.
