Over 300 pastors are meeting to decide who they are going to endorse for Cook County Board President. Do these 300 clergy influence your vote?
Manny M. Frencha
NOPE! They need to all come together sit wit da YOUTH and devise plans for social centers at their churches, ya think.
Arlene Jones
Never. We have more churches and ministers, pastors, reverends and bishops and what have those 300 done to improve the county to the point where their opinion should influence mine? Is there a 300 PASTOR GROCERY STORE???? What about a 300 PASTOR SHOPPING MALL AND BANK? Until they deal in ECONOMICS, their voices are just 300 folks talking smack and delivering nothing.
Dee Dixon
I am reminded of when 'Boss" Daley called obedient Black ministers to meet with Dr. King and explain that his presence was not needed here as Chicago had no race problem. A group of ministers meeting doesn't sway my opinion on anything other than the availability of fried chicken in a 5 miles radius of the meeting.
Bronzeville Metropolis:
I'm at Darrion's visitation...so sad. A child is in this casket.
Manny M. Frencha:
I could imagine. Especially for da way he was taken away. I rode by da scene of his death with my son yesterday it seemed very eerie seeing it in person. Take care.
April Jones:
My God, when will the madness stop??
Tamela Dodds:
I'm praying for his family and for these children with so much anger in their hearts.
Cynthia M. Flowers:
Sister I thank you for being you. Thanks for caring and representing the community (village). We all couldn't be there but I am certain your presence brought some comfort to the family. His life will not be in vain. We are certainly being moved in the right direction. We as a community are at the breaking point. Peace unto you.

Youth Violence: The dilemma of the Prez and all of us involved is how do we stop the immediate hemorrhaging? The constant clashes? Yes, longer range plans are necessary; after-school programs, etc.. But, how do we stop the bleeding NOW? Is the National Guard the answer?
Aton Edwards:
Our kids are the products of broken families, and a terminally flawed society. They fail because WE have failed. In every way. They are only manifesting OUR sickness and spitting it right back into our faces. We are just too damned weak and cowardly to face the truth. If it were a white mob that killed Derrion, we'd be up in arms like we were for those Jena 6 kids because it allows us to point fingers at the "usual suspects." It's easier to do that than face your own demons. The National Guard won't solve this problem, or after-school programs, or better teachers, etc.. WE NEED BETTER PARENTS! These kids need loving stable homes & if we can't do that, then it's OVER! These so-called Men in our community need to MAN-UP and start taking care of these kids they like to make so much -- or start buying condoms & using them. Same for these Women. Like MJ said -- If You Cant Feed Your Baby, yeah yeah, Then Don't Have A Baby, yeah yeah, And Don't Think Maybe, yeah yeah, If You Can't Feed Your Baby, yeah yeah. You'll Be Always Tryin'/To Stop That Child From Cryin'/Hustlin', Stealin', Lyin'/Now Baby's Slowly Dyin' -Our babies ARE slowly dying. It's our fault. Stop looking for outside solutions & look in the damned mirror.

This past Thursday while waiting at the bus stop(95th King Dr. westbound bus) my son a student at Chicago State University, was approached by 2 male students from Harlan High School asking him "What school he went to" (he was wearing his best-friend’s Von Stueben hoodie) when my son told them CSU, BS was the boy's reply. When my son stepped back to take a defensive stance, a fight ensued. The other boy observing my son was getting the better of the 1st boy decided to call for re-enforcement, my son saw between 15-20 boys running toward him. My son ran into traffic almost getting hit by a couple of cars, managed to reach CSU campus and he called me. My husband notified CSU, one of his counselors, and the provost. They were alarmed that such an incident could happen so soon after the slaying of young Derrion.
What happened to Truant Officers? Most of these kids are not in school, and the one's enrolled are told by their teachers, " just come to school so we can get the funds", the parents of these kids are not being held accountable, I hear excuses like "If I hit my child I'll go to jail". We need more venues for the kids to have activities, the park districts are simply over- crowded, the suburban kids have these facilities, if we can accommodate the 2016 games, why can't we accommodate our youth build facilities for them.
Francois:
If the National Guard comes, I’m buying coffee and donuts for the entire squad.
Cornelius Hubbard:
The schools are probably the safest place for these kids. Coming and going to school is where the issues arise. Chicago is still the most segregated northern city. The problem is kids being bussed into different neighborhoods and being different or from somewhere else. The solution is a true integration to let these kids know they are all the same, with the same dreams and fears. Barring that, scrap Arne Duncan’s 2010 plan and reopen neighborhood schools.
Nurrie Muhammad:
I do not have a concrete answer but I do not believe the National Guard is the answer. This I believe will cause a greater problem. The next thing you know tax paying law abiding citizens will be told they can't be on their front porch or everyone will have a curfew. This cannot happen!
Ledelle:
This is a war, a war being waged on multiple battle fronts but in the same theatre. Where we have failed is that, unlike our adversary whose weapons are poverty, disenfranchisement, disunity and ultimately depopulation, we have not countered his attack. He fights using the best in his arsenal. Television, radio, ill-equipped educational facilities and these are the very weapons we are powerless against because we have not yet figured out that these are in fact weapons.
I remember reading in the Book of Revelation where the Archangel Michael and his angels fight against the Dragon and his angels in heaven. The Dragon has been fighting ever since he was a snake. We go to work every day and leave our children in the Dragon’s care. What are our children being taught by cable television? What are they being taught by radio? Our children are a prey to the most wicked plan ever conceived, and where are we ... the parents? If it is true that it takes a village to raise a child, where are our villages?
We have to start being involved in our children’s lives either directly or indirectly. We need to be there at the school when they get out. We have to be there when they have questions about whatever. We have to understand that they are us... the future us and whatever amount of care and attention we put in them, when we leave this earth, they will be here fighting the same war. Like brother Farrakhan says we must “Take Responsibility to Build Our Community.”
Glenn Reedus:
Does Duncan regret implementing Renaissance 2010 given that that is the program that doesn't let the Altgeld Garden kids go to Carver?
Tiana:
My son is in Iraq and he seems to be safer than the kids in Chicago!
Cynthia Flowers:
AG Holder: How do you intend to work with state level governments to ensure that punishment for violent crimes is stiff and sends a message of no tolerance. The criminals are working the justice system to their advantage. They know the punishment for gun possession is minimal and they are willing to risk getting caught or they use loopholes and have a younger person carry the weapon.
Duncan: Currently Fenger is functioning as a holding ground or catch all. The communities that the school serves are in need of socio-economic stimulus. Are there any plans to utilize the shops at the school to offer vocational training to students and adults in the community?
Jerry L. Robinson:
WE MUST ALL STAND UP TOGETHER AS ONE TO STOP THE KILLING
Karen Bozeman Gross:
I agree....yes, there are a lot of thugs, but an intervention in young peoples lives between 6 & 10 years of age is critical to stop the hemorrhaging of lives...... We must do a better job of celebrating the young people who have come through "rough" lives to graduate from high school and go on to trade school, Jr., & four year colleges after high school.
Bronzeville Metropolis:
The Prez is visiting New Orleans Thursday...his sixth visit since Hurricane Katrina. He wants to see the progress or lack thereof first hand. Town Hall will be held.
Hosea Hanslip:
You know what's crazy? Modular homes take a week and a half to put up; and they are energy efficient. I hope architects will be with him.
Nette SupAgurl Johnson:
He is sincere about The Rebuilding of New Orleans...and this is why he won the Nobel Peace Prize! His compassion for humanity! Let's keep it going...
Geia Scott:
Aaah.... he checkin’ up on ****...makin’ sure the money goes where it’s supposed to go!! Thats what I’m talkin’ bout!!
Nurrie Muhammad:
Wow! Pres. Obama’s 6th visit huh!? He’s gone to check on the people of Hurricane Katrina more than Bush did on His watch! Go figure...
Angel:
I’m so glad you’re going back to print! Your newspaper is my therapy!
