Low voter turnout in Chicago? The reason Barack was a phenom was because he was genuine. If there were true public servants who want to better the quality of life for their constituents instead of feeding their ego, turnout would be energized.

Yes!

Agreed but still inexcusable. What they don’t do has no impact on what we MUST do.

That’s right, Eunice.
Katharyn Houke-Smith
I agree completely Eunice.

People today have been hurt and disappointed so much by community and political leaders that seemingly they have given up. Yet, they recognize the genuineness in an individual when they do find one and will support that individual as did electing our current president. Still it’s not excusable for the people not presenting their own agenda for their community and fighting for what they need to prosper as a people when you elect an individual into office. (No one can help you if you are not making the effort to help yourself). Even when we recognize leaders are not working in our best interest we are not uniting together to challenge them. Talking is cheap - actions speaks louder than words - and its works. It’s inevitable, unless we unite, divided we will continue to crumble and fall. Probably we will see this over and over and it won’t get better until we the people work together demanding better than what and who we are working with and what “we” are doing for ourselves.

NO VIABLE CANDIDATES. NO VOTERS

This year is going to be ugly in politics. The Republicans are going to hone in on State races to get more power in Washington, D.C. in hopes of ultimately unseating the President after one term.
Scott Horwitz
scary true. How ridiculous and sad.

That’s what happens when you don’t handle the peoples biz! Maybe that’s why I’m an INDY.

The Nation of Islam is celebrating 80 years this month. Wow. Even after his battle with cancer, Farrakhan is still going strong. Many may not agree with aspects of their teachings but, the NOI’s message to Blacks to stop begging and Do For Self should be looked at objectively.
Donna DjDimple Hammond
Amen! And Minister Farrakhan is looking wonderful...especially when he was on the brink of death just a couple of years ago!

People have difficulties focusing a ‘Message’ instead of the ‘Messenger’.

STOP BEGGING and DO FOR SELF!! Words to live by.

I like the way the Today Show framed the Haiti story to try to make us feel sorry for the traffickers who were stealing children and got busted trying to cross the border into the D.R.. Whether “the Reverend” and his “Good Wife” are “Americans” or not, I believe they are SICK INDIVIDUALS with SICK INTENTIONS! And even ...if they are not, the rest of the SICKOS will take a lesson.
Dwayne Hirsch
I don’t watch the Today Show but I am not surprised by the softening of the severity of the crimes of these people. Reminds you of the time during Katrina when Black people were “looting” and White people were “finding” food and goods. In a situation like this, race doesn’t matter but they make it matter when the coverage has clear variations in its tone and intent. Thanks Leila

What would the stroy be if some Black church members had taken some white children across a border with only a letter of explanation. LEAVE OUR CHILDREN ALONE!!!
Camille Rollins
I agree. Even if they were trying to do the honest thing, it doesn’t negate the fact that they were kidnapping. How could they believe that a pastor’s “okay” would be all they needed when the pastor himself couldn’t cross the border??!!
Colemon B Bridgemon
I said the same thing all the children here needing help and they are in haiti talking about trying to help homeless children,President Obama needs to set up a special task force to prevent the abuse of hatian children from possible predatory individuals.
April Jones
I agree. Their intentions were for fradulent gain. They really need someone over or go over there and organize a little bit better. It is a disaster from what I can see on TV. I pray that things get better, and God help those people help themselves.
Laura Marie Stampley-Matthews
I was did adoption work for over 25 yrs. I found it interesting how they thought they had the RIGHT to walk the streets and pick the children they thought they should have. Based on what I saw on the news, the children they picked were all healthy, attractive and well cared for. I heard many attitudes over the years when I was in that field as to... See More why the “good whit people” thought they had a RIGHT to save the healthiest, most intelligent, the fairest skin of Black children from their parents.

Great topic Leila along with great comments regarding this devastating act. My heart goes out to the Haitians who cannot help themselves. My heart also goes out to all that I see around and among me every day and the questions remains what are we Americans really doing about our own conditions - the hungry, homeless, abused? Our conditions here are much worse than what we read, see and hear and we continue to allow selfish leaders (gov’t and community) to misrepresent us every day. But then again it probably will continue until we are sick and tired of being sick and tired. Keep up the good work we’re listening.
Ena F. Miller
I second that!
