Beloved Bronzeville

35th and State Street-Two of the first ten obelisks to be installed commemorating the history of Bronzeville. The obelisks are the brainchild of the late Senator Margaret Smith and Esther Barnett of the Bronzeville Merchants Association. The next two obelisks will be installed on 35th and King Drive in the spring of 2010. These obelisks are a joint effort by the Bronzeville Merchants Association, the State of Illinois, and the City of Chicago. The Obelisk Committee encourages continued sponsorship by community businesses and residents to mark Bronzeville's rich cultural heritage and making our neighborhood a tourist destination.
